Frequently Asked Questions

General

What sets Her Rooted Wellness apart from other similar services?

At Her Rooted Wellness, there are a few things that set my approach to healing apart:

I take a holistic, root-cause approach to wellness, emphasizing mind, body, and soul nourishment. I utilize a holistic, natural method focusing on nutrition, lifestyle, and targeted supplementation (if needed). I do not prescribe medication as 99% of the time I find it’s not necessary to achieve the results you want.

One of my driving missions is to create a safe and welcoming space where all women feel deeply understood and cared for. This goal influences all of the programs and services I create. This is why all of my initial consults are 90+ minutes long and I allow my clients to connect with me in a variety of ways as often as they need. I truly strive to create a one-of-a-kind experience where you feel seen, heard, and understood.

With 10+ years of experience in the health space and advanced education in functional medicine, hormones, and gut health, I offer evidence-based care that’s compassionate, empathetic, and tailored to your unique health journey.

Will you be my Primary Care Provider (PCP)?

Unfortunately, I only see clients in a health coaching capacity at this time. Although I am a Certified Nurse Practitioner (meaning I am licensed to order tests, diagnose medical conditions, prescribe medications, and manage medical conditions in the state of Florida), the services I currently perform at Her Rooted Wellness, whether in person, via email, by phone, or by video conferencing, are at all times restricted to providing general health coaching services. Remember, health coaching is not a replacement for medical care administered by a licensed medical professional. At all times my clients must agree to continue routine care with their primary care provider and/or specialist and only use the information provided in the coaching sessions for informational purposes.

Can you guarantee my results?

Nope! There are no guarantees to coaching as your success ultimately depends on the amount of effort you make towards achieving optimal health and wellness which I am unable to control. However, I do guarantee that I will go above & beyond to support you in your wellness goals and do everything within my power to set you up for success. At the end of the day, your results will depend on the work you are doing between our sessions.

What is “root cause” or functional medicine?

Root cause or functional medicine is a patient-centered approach to healthcare that seeks to uncover and address the fundamental reasons behind health problems. Instead of simply alleviating symptoms, practitioners of this approach investigate the intricate web of factors such as genetics, lifestyle, environment, and nutrition that contribute to a person’s well-being. By understanding and addressing the root causes of illness or dysfunction, functional medicine aims to promote long-term health and well-being.

This approach often involves personalized treatment plans that may include dietary and lifestyle changes, supplementation, stress management, and other interventions tailored to the individual’s unique needs and circumstances.

Hormone imbalances are NOT a root cause but rather a consequence of other deeper-rooted issues in the body. In our work together, we strive to understand what is driving the imbalance in your specific situation. This could be stealth infections, gut dysbiosis, nervous system dysregulation, imbalanced blood sugar, toxic chemicals in your environment, or many other factors. I do utilize functional lab testing to help with this process when the root cause may be unclear.

Instead of using the “pill for every ill” approach (i.e. using birth control or supplements like DIM to temporarily help with a specific symptom), we dig deep to find and correct the root cause.

Remember: your body is completely capable of healing and functioning how it’s designed to, we just need to figure out what’s getting in its way.

What is your refund policy?

For testing packages: Once the functional lab test kit is completed and mailed back to the lab, I am not able to offer any refunds as I am unable to recoup the lab fees for testing. If you have ordered the lab kit but no longer wish to complete it and have not returned it to the lab, send an email with the test kit name to support@rupahealth.com asking for a cancellation. Upon receipt of the request, Rupa will check refund eligibility and follow-up with you.

For 1:1, group coaching, and other programs/offerings: No refunds will be issued. Your satisfaction with your program/product/service is VERY important to me (truly). Yet, because of the extensive time, effort, preparation, and care that goes into creating and/or providing my programs/products/services & program materials as well as the electronic nature of these offerings, I have a no refund policy. If you have a concern, please reach out to me at jenna@herrootedwellness.com so we can discuss other options.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept insurance. I understand using health insurance can make services more accessible in some situations but, unfortunately, the care insurance-based practitioners are able to provide is, in my opinion, subpar. Insurance dictates how long appointments can be, which tests can be ordered, and which support options are allowed- in other words, we work for the insurance company instead of the clients. Many clients are unhappy with the care (especially the short appointment times) they receive in these settings which is why they come looking for alternative options. I worked in the insurance model for many years and was never able to give my clients the care they deserve until opting out of insurance.

I DO accept HSA/FSA and also provide payment plans for many of my services to help make the investment more accessible for my clients. Please note, because there are many different HSA/FSA plans, I cannot guarantee reimbursement and do not provide super bills.

Hormone Testing

What happens after I finish the protocol?

It’s up to you! Some women choose re-testing after the protocol to see how their test results have changed and ensure all of the abnormal results have been adequately addressed. Others, who have complete resolution or overall feel well still may find it beneficial to complete an annual DUTCH to stay on top of their hormone balance.

Does this package include ongoing support with you?

No- this package is not meant to replace 1:1 support and only includes a single 60-minute session to go over your results and protocol. If specific questions or concerns arise during the protocol, you may reach out to me at jenna@herrootedwellness.com. Please note excessive correspondences may result in additional charges or a discussion on upgrading package options.

What if I realize I need more support once I start the protocol?

Reach out to me directly at jenna@herrootedwellness.com to discuss upgrade options & we can make something work! You can also view my other offerings here.

How can I be sure this is the right test for me?

That can be tough! Deciding which functional lab test is best for which symptoms definitely requires nuance & expertise, that’s why I always recommend scheduling a free 15-minute chat with me to discuss the testing options before placing your order.

Is a DUTCH helpful if my period has been missing for a long time?

This is actually not where I would start in this situation- if your period has been missing, I typically recommend blood tests as a more comprehensive & cost-effective starting place to look for potential hormone imbalances and other common root causes. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to discuss further.

Is a DUTCH helpful if I am on hormonal birth control or just got off of hormonal birth control?

Not really. Hormonal birth control suppresses your natural hormones and prevents ovulation which prevents the production of progesterone. If you have just gotten off of hormonal birth control, I recommend waiting 3-6 months before taking a DUTCH.

What is your refund policy?

Once the test kit is completed and mailed back to the lab, I am not able to offer any refunds as I am unable to recoup the lab fees for testing. If you have ordered the lab kit but no longer wish to complete it and have not returned it to the lab, send an email with the test kit name to support@rupahealth.com asking for a cancellation. Upon receipt of the request, Rupa will check refund eligibility and follow-up with you.

What are the payment options/do you accept insurance?

You can pay for your order using all major credit/debit cards, HSA/FSA cards or a 3-month payment plan. At this time, Insurance reimbursement is not available for these tests. If you have any questions about completing your payment, you can reach the Rupa team at support@rupahealth.com.

Gut Health Testing Package

Why would I get gut testing if I’m really just worried about my hormones?

Imagine your body is like a big puzzle with many pieces, and two of these pieces are your gut and your hormones.

Now, here’s the cool part: your gut and hormones are closely connected and talk to each other all the time. When your gut is happy and healthy, it helps your hormones work properly. But if your gut isn’t happy, it can have a big impact on your hormone balance. Many hormonal imbalances can actually be the result of gut imbalances!

Remember: hormonal imbalances are not a root cause- something is going on that is throwing your delicate hormone balance off. Our work together involves going deeper instead of just putting a band-aid over your symptoms.

What happens after I finish the protocol?

We recommend re-testing after the first 90-day phase to see how your test results have changed. (Remember: gut imbalances likely developed over an extended period of time and cannot always be fully corrected with one round of treatment.) Once we analyze the results of your second test, we can recommend a maintenance protocol. Many clients find it beneficial to complete annual or bi-annual GI mapping to stay on top of their gut health.

Does this package include ongoing support with you?

No- this package is not meant to replace 1:1 support and only includes a single 60-minute session. If specific questions or concerns arise during the protocol, you may reach out to me at jenna@herrootedwellness.com. Please note excessive correspondences may result in additional charges or a discussion on upgrading package options.
