I’m ready to get started- what’s the process from here?

Step 1: Schedule your visit

(If you don’t see any times that work for you, please send me an email to jenna@herrootedwellness.com and we can find a time that works.)

Step 2: Prepare for your visit

Don’t worry, I’ll send all the required intake questionnaires to fill out before your visit so I can review and come prepared. Make sure to keep an eye out for an email from my practice management system, Practice Better. I’ll also send you guidelines for taking photos to upload to the patient portal prior to our meeting.

Step 3: We meet- and the magic happens!

During our meeting, we’ll be going over your health story related to lipedema in-depth. We’ll have plenty of time to go over your most pressing questions and make sure you leave feeling heard, seen, and clear on your next steps.

After your visit, I’ll send you all of the resources and clinical information we discussed during your visit.

FAQs

Do you only see women in Florida?

I am currently only licensed as a nurse practitioner in the state of Florida, which means I can only provide a formal (on paper) diagnosis to women who are physically in Florida at the time of their visit. Not a Florida resident? No problem! You just need to be here for your appointment — many of my patients travel to Florida for their visit and even turn it into a little getaway.

However, if you already have a formal diagnosis and are just needing additional letters of medical necessity, OR are simply wanting to go over your suspected lipedema case with a lipedema specialist, I am happy to meet with you in a health coaching/consulting capacity.

What are the payment options/do you accept insurance?

I do not accept insurance. While I understand that insurance can make healthcare more accessible in some situations, the reality is that insurance companies dictate how long appointments can be, what tests can be ordered, and which treatment options are covered. This limits the quality of care providers can offer and shifts the focus away from what’s best for the patient.

I spent many years working within the insurance model and found it impossible to give my clients the comprehensive care they deserved until I opted out. Many clients come to me after feeling frustrated with rushed appointments and limited options in insurance-based settings.

That said, I accept all major credit/debit cards and HSA/FSA payments to make care more accessible. If requested, I can provide a superbill after your visit, which you may submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Please note that reimbursement varies by plan, and I can’t guarantee it.

Why should I see you over other specialists?

As a dedicated lipedema specialist, I have invested countless hours into researching and understanding this condition. My journey includes attending numerous conferences and receiving mentorship from esteemed members of the lipedema community. Lipedema isn’t just my area of expertise—it’s my passion.

What truly sets me apart is my personal experience with lipedema, as I am a lippy lady myself. This firsthand knowledge fuels my empathy and commitment to my patients, ensuring they receive the compassionate care and understanding that I once sought in a healthcare provider.

I don’t want to do a virtual appointment- can I see you in person?

I understand the desire for an in-person visit, especially when you’re navigating a complex condition like lipedema. However, at this time, I only offer virtual consultations, even for local clients. I’ve found that virtual visits allow me to provide a thorough, convenient, and supportive experience, and they’re often preferred by clients for their flexibility and comfort.

Through a detailed intake form, photo submissions, and a 90-minute video consultation, I’m able to thoroughly evaluate your symptoms, assess physical findings, discuss your health history, screen for related conditions, and guide you through personalized treatment options. Many clients who were initially hesitant about virtual visits have been surprised by how comprehensive and empowering the process is.

I’m early stage or have atypical symptoms, should I still make an appointment?

Absolutely. Many of my clients come to me with early-stage or atypical symptoms, and I’m very comfortable working with cases like this. In fact, because I specialize in lipedema, I’m able to recognize the condition even in its earlier stages or when the presentation doesn’t follow a textbook pattern.

If you’re feeling unsure, remember that early recognition and proactive care can make a big difference in managing symptoms and slowing progression. I’m here to provide a comprehensive evaluation and support plan tailored to your unique situation.

Can you tell me more about your approach?

Absolutely! I take a holistic, natural, root-cause approach with all of my clients & patients. I believe the key to achieving true wellness as a woman comes down to returning to the foundational tenants of health- nourishing whole foods, regular movement, sunlight, sleep, rest, mindfulness, and finding joy, so I work very closely with my clients in all of these areas. I do not prescribe medication as 99% of the time I find it’s not necessary to achieve the results you want.

One of my driving missions is to create a safe and welcoming space where all women feel deeply understood and cared for. This goal influences all of the programs and services I create. This is why all of my initial appointments are 60-90+ minutes long. I truly strive to create a one-of-a-kind experience where you feel seen, heard, and understood.

With 10+ years of experience in the health space and advanced education in functional medicine, dysautonomia, hormones, and gut health, I offer evidence-based care that’s compassionate, empathetic, and tailored to your unique health journey.

Will you become my PCP?

No, I currently only see clients in a health coaching/consulting capacity at this time. Although I am a Certified Nurse Practitioner (meaning I am licensed to order tests, diagnose medical conditions, prescribe medications, and manage medical conditions in the state of Florida), the services I currently perform at Her Rooted Wellness, whether in person, via email, by phone, or by video conferencing, are at all times restricted to providing general health coaching services. The ONLY exception to this is that I do provide formal diagnosis and management of lipedema for women living in the state of Florida. At all times, my clients must agree to continue routine care with their primary care provider and/or specialists.
